Viehscheid

Return of the cattle from the alpine meadows in September: All summer the cattle graze the mountains of Oberstdorf. However, every year, the cattle are driven back into their stalls.

On this "farmers’ holiday" – provided everything has gone well and no cow is seriously injured - the cows are washed and decorated and everything is prepared for their homecoming. The most beautiful cow is the so-called "Kranzrind" which is decorated with a luxurious head decoration of flowers and mirrors.

Up to 20,000 visitors watch the return of the cattle from the Alpine meadows at the Oberstdorf Scheidplatz im Ried. Having spent the summer in the Alps, about 1000 cows return to the valley.
